This Month's Theme
For April, we went with a fun Cinco de Mayo theme full of bright colors and festive elements. The kit includes:
A "Fiesta" sign for the front of your wagon
A "Cinco de Mayo" sign for inside the wagon
Decorative sombrero
Colorful maracas
Cute cactus
Chili peppers
And other festive accents
The color palette features vibrant yellows, blues, greens, oranges, and reds that work together to create eye-catching decorations.
Detailed Painting & Assembly Process
Painting Tips
Use the included makeup sponge for most of the painting - use the rectangular end and dab straight up and down in a tapping motion
Apply thin coats of paint rather than trying to cover everything in one go
For yellows and lighter colors, add a tiny bit of white to your first coat for better coverage
For the "Fiesta" sign, create a beautiful ombre effect with green at the top, blending into yellow, then orange, and finally red at the bottom
Add dimension to the cactus by using a darker green in the center and lighter green around the edges
Red, orange, and yellow colors typically need 2-3 coats for good coverage
You can clip the makeup sponge with scissors as you go to keep colors separate
Assembly Steps
Base coat each wooden piece with its primary color:
White: Sign bases
Yellow: Top of sombrero, maracas
Blue: "Cinco" lettering, cactus base, sombrero strips
Green: "de" lettering, cactus
Orange: "Mayo" lettering
Red: Bottom of sombrero, pepper pieces, maracas details
Let everything dry completely between coats
Add secondary colors and details to pieces like the sombrero strips and banner
Use E6000 glue to attach all components - run it along the edges "like lipstick" to prevent excess seepage
Add decorative white details with a small paintbrush:
Use the tip of the brush for organic swipes and swirls
Use the bottom end of the brush for perfect dots
Add details to letters, banner edges, and decorative elements
The entire project can be completed in about 30-45 minutes, making it a perfect self-care crafting activity. Don't worry about perfection - as I like to say, "there is beauty in the imperfections!"
